History of the Company
Global Sign Systems, inc., formerly known as Acme Neon Sign Company, takes pride in its long and successful history in the sign business. This family owned and operated business was established in 1957. However, the family legacy began many years earlier. At the turn of 20th century, Andrew Blakely started a billboard company in Detroit, Michigan. He specialized in gold leaf. Andrew’s son, Cassius Blakely, founded the Acme Neon Institute in Chicago, Illinois. The institute taught the art of neon tube bending. The United States government, following World War II, as a career training school for returning veterans, subsidized this school. Robert Blakely, son of Cassius, established Acme Neon Sign Company. As the current owner/operator, Michael Blakely represents the fourth generation to carry on the proud family tradition in the sign industry.
Global Signs has developed a system where we deliver peace of mind to our clients. Our system allows us to manufacture and install your signage so early in the construction process, that emergencies, changes, and landlord holdups are inconsequential. We take on the entire process for you, so to better allow your staff to be working on the successful construction of the store while we take care of everything related to signage. We develop drawing packages for all our clients while in the real estate process so you know what signage will be allowed on your potential site early enough to decide if the site will work for you. We handle all landlord communication and jurisdictional research to ensure maximum exposure of your brand. We manufacture and install your signs, often by the beginning of the construction process, giving the community awareness of your upcoming opening, creating higher sales at store opening.
We ensure that all monuments and pylons clearly represent your brand to the maximum your lease and landlord allow. Whether it be single location or an International multi location account, we handle servicing of our own signs, as well as any legacy signage provided by previous sign companies to make sure that every brand exposure is lighting 100% and that each representation is fitting and demonstrative of the quality of your product and service inside the store. In the business world we know there are only three areas in which a company can be competitive. One can produce a product or service 1) better, 2) faster or 3) less expensive. That’s it!
